We’re halfway through the HSC... | Advice for staying motivated

For those Year 12s who have finished their HSC already… congratulations! Enjoy your well deserved break and get excited for some adventurous, fun years ahead.

For those still studying away, congratulations too for conquering English already (and perhaps a couple other subjects such as 4U Maths, Modern History or Languages too!). Continue your momentum to ace those final exams using these tips to stay motivated.

Pace yourself

Even if you feel as though the hardest exams are over already, make sure to still spend the time on your remaining units. By giving each of your final subjects your undivided attention and maximised study time, you’ll be giving yourself the best chance you have to finish the HSC strongly. This especially applies if you have 2 exams on 1 day coming up - avoid waiting until one is over before studying for the second, and instead alternate preparing for both.

Stay healthy

It can be easy to be so bogged down studying that you forget to leave your study space. Always be sure to stay hydrated! If you find yourself getting distracted or procrastinating, a short walk for a toilet break or to grab water will help you refocus on those past papers.

Keep the screen time low

Uninstalled Instagram, Snapchat or Facebook to be less distracted? Keep it that way! Consider using the app Forest to keep distractions at bay.

Make use of study buddies

Do you ever find that you learn the most when you’re last-minute revising with others outside the exam hall before the exam? It’s incredible how much you can learn from your peers - whether that be through discussing ideas, completing timed past papers together or for holding you accountable for your studying. If you like studying with others, make the time to book a room at a library and study as a group.

Now go smash those remaining exams, and look forward to what’s ahead!
